Meet Steph & Paul
The Quabbs was an idea started around 20 years ago on one of our annual North American road trips. We had a vision of hosting guests in a traditionally crafted log cabin with authentic and carefully made furnishings – a private and secluded haven to wind down. Both of us are avid travellers and have drawn inspiration from the many log cabins and quirky retreats we have experienced over the last two decades. Although neither of us knew when it would happen, we continued to gather together ideas and talk about our vision from time to time. We knew then that a (early!) retirement plan was underway! But first, we needed a special spot to build our cabin.
In early 2019 we decided the time was right… Then Covid put a temporary stop to our plans. It was 2021 before we were able to start again.
Sustainable materials
Paul is by trade a craftsman; he is an experienced, skilled and careful carpenter. He has used his vast experience to craft The Quabbs – every last piece of timber, traditional feature and original addition. Whilst Steph is practical too, her real strengths lie in the creative design and the ability to realise the vision created between them. She is also an expert at ‘gathering’ items for Paul to craft into something else – more about this another time…

A perfect balance between stylish and quirky décor and traditional comfort and cosiness. The Quabbs offers a romantic bolt-hole for two – you’ll want to come back again and again.
Space to breathe
When we talk about our inspiration; we have drawn ideas from unique places throughout the world (see our ‘Cabins we have Loved’ blog for more information) We have bits here and there from Canada, ideas from Central America, many authentic ideas from The USA – as far as Alaska – The Baltic States, Europe as well as the Scandinavian countries. We have brought it all here to Wales, into what we hope is a quirky, comfortable and above all quality stress-free experience for our guests. The planning stages were frantic, fun and fulfilling – we also had a few differences of opinion!
Both of us love, and were born in the countryside, the space to breathe is paramount to us so, it made sense to us to share our farm in rural mid-Wales with you. We hope you will be able to slow down, breathe and enjoy a carefree break here with us at The Quabbs.
