Code Orange: Autumn Escapes at Quabbs Cabin
It’s official: Code Orange has been declared at Quabbs Cabin in the hills of Mid Wales.
The signs of autumn arrive quietly here. The fields grow hushed under a blanket of soft morning mist, hedgerows burst with the last of the blackberries, and the scent of woodsmoke drifts lazily through the valley. Autumn in Wales has begun, and it feels like the land is taking a deep, cosy breath.
For me, autumn has always been the season of simple pleasures. There’s the satisfying crunch of leaves under wellies, the childlike joy of swishing through golden drifts, and the reward of a bracing walk that ends at a glowing country pub. Few things beat a pint by the fire, cheeks flushed from the cool air, while the wind rattles outside.
Back at the cabin, autumn becomes its own kind of magic. The porch looks out onto rolling hills now dressed in bronze, copper, and gold. Evenings invite you to curl under thick throws with a steaming mug, a book, and the gentle soundtrack of owls in the trees. It’s a season that insists you slow down — and there’s no better place to do just that.
This year, I’m leaning fully into the “Code Orange” spirit with autumn décor at the cabin:
Burnt orange throws and deep woodland green cushions
Splashes of rich plum and dark copper tones
Pumpkins, both decorative and delicious
Twinkling fairy lights and lanterns for moody evenings
Foraged wreaths of berried branches and dried seed heads
It’s about weaving the season into the cabin so it feels like a natural extension of the land outside. Cosy, rustic, and just a little wild.
Autumn at Quabbs Cabin is all about balance: long country walks followed by hot baths, cold noses warmed by roaring log fires, and big starry skies above nights that are best spent in snug corners. For me, this is the season the cabin was made for.
So pack your woolly socks, pull on your favourite jumper, and come ready for bracing rambles, starlit hot tubs, and evenings where the only thing on the agenda is slowing down
